Kingsport Christian Academy Cell Phone and Device Policy
Cell phones (as well as smart watches and similar devices) have become a way of life, a technological convenience that has impacted all of our lives in one way or another. However, in the school environment, these devices have become a distraction and source of frequent interruption. The use of cell phones during class takes away from the valuable time needed for instructional and most importantly, student learning. We do recognize that cell phones can be a safety/security tool; however, they can also be a detriment in the event of a building emergency and our protocol to manage such emergencies in a safe and effective manner. Therefore, cellphones and smart watches (or any similar device) are not permitted at KCA. If parents need to relay any urgent messages to their child, administration will gladly do so (423-335-5466). The detailed cellphone and device policy may be read here (updated spring 2025).
Students may NOT have either cell phones or smart watches on school premises. They must either be left in personal vehicles or turned over to staff (powered off) as students enter the building.
If a student needs to communicate with their parent during the school day, they may ask to use the KCA phone.
Student drivers who need to let parents know they arrived safely at KCA should do so prior to entering the building.
If a student is found with a cell phone or smart watch in their possession, the following consequences will apply:
First Offense: The device will immediately be taken and brought to the school administrator. The student may retrieve their phone at the end of their school day. Parents will be notified of offense.
Second Offense: The device will be confiscated and brought to an administrator. A parent or guardian must come to retrieve the device in person.
Third Offense: The student may face disciplinary consequences up to and including suspension or expulsion, in accordance with the KCA Student Code of Conduct and Student Discipline Procedures contained in the KCA Student and Family Handbook.
